Why wear pink?

Before Cora was born, I wasn't much of a pink person. The day I found out Cora was a girl, my house turned into a pink explosion. Suddenly, I was attracted to anything pink. It reminded me of her. This is her nursery that I labored over for hours.

At her funeral, we wanted to give something special to remember her. We made bows like these and asked people to wear pink. We also asked our online community to wear pink.

After she died, I immediately knew I had to share her love. Her beauty. I knew this love and beauty would only multiply. I set out on a mission from early on. I remembered her one month birthday with a good deed, and others joined me. This because a habit. One month, a friend started a Facebook even asking people to wear pink for Cora. Soon, the two ideas began to merge, wear pink and do good. Wear Pink For Cora was born.

A good deed.... For Cora...

Face it, we don’t all have hours of time and stacks of money to help people

Before, Cora, that’s what I thought it took. Cora taught me a good deed is much less.

Kindness and compassion can be spread in a matter of seconds and can cost pennies to nothing.

Cora glowed. She was a shining light of good and compassion, I know she would have done all of these things repeatedly.

For Cora…
  • Read an extra half hour with your children for all the books Cora and I didn’t get to read.
  • Smile at a cashier and ask her how HER day is going and listen to her response. Thank her for helping you for all the trips to the grocery store Cora didn’t get to take.
  • Tell your family you love them for all the times Cora didn’t get to say she loved us.
  • Spend five minutes researching congenital heart defects so that you know a little more about the condition that took Cora, it’s the most common birth defect.
  • Donate $5 to any charity for all the charities Cora never donated to.
  • Put a few quarters into a meter that has run out to help someone avoid a parking ticket because Cora never got to drive.
  • Phone an elderly relative to say hello because Cora never got to grow old.
  • Hug your babies tight, for Cora.
Compassion, patience and love take just a moment, but last for infinity.
